Social Media – Have you been scammed by your favourite celebrity?

National Inquiry Agency has had quite a few people cross our threshold with complaints of being scammed by their favourite celebrity on social media. They have lost both financially and personally.

How many of us have seen our favourite celebrity promoting a product on social media? We are so excited. It’s our favourite celebrity, and they would never lie to us or be connected to something dodgy. We trust them.

We are clicking on that link. We do not have to worry; we trust our favourite celebrity. We click that link; it seems to be legit. We are then asked to provide verification for the Bitcoin by depositing funds into an account. It’s okay. We trust them, so we send that $100 deposit because we know it’s fine……You have just given the scammers $100 you will not see again.

Alert!

These are fake celebrity accounts! The “real” celebrity is not aware that they are being used as part of a scam. Over the years, scammers have used celebrities and their status to create fake social media accounts to prey on devoted fans. This could be in the form of bitcoins or products.

What’s the risk?

The risk is loss of funds or, even worse, that the link they sent to your computer was malicious, and the scammers now have access to all your personal details and cryptocurrency accounts.

How to avoid this type of scam?

The easiest way is not to click on the link!

I know you are tempted…., but it is such a good deal, right?

Wrong! By clicking on the link, you open yourself up to scammers and a new world of financial harm.

What should I do if I am not sure or have been scammed?

Call National Inquiry Agency…they are the Subject Matter Experts (SME for short) in all types of dodgy scammers and can assist you. They will investigate the scam for you.

You need to remember that once you have been scammed, it is almost impossible to recover the funds. However, if left unreported, scammers will continue to get away with scamming other people just like yourself.

Also, suppose you are a fan of the real celebrity, in that case, you do not want to tarnish their reputation by allowing these people to get away with using their identity to endorse the “fake” celebrity with a fake product.
